Reflecting on 2024: A Year of Memories, Milestones, and New Beginnings

As the year comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey that 2024 has been. While it wasn’t an easy year, it was certainly a meaningful one, filled with growth, challenges, and unforgettable moments. This year, I’m proud to say I completed over 80 sessions this year! These sessions ranged from weddings and proposals to senior portraits, headshots, industry events, and even some creative projects like recreating a first date.

The most beautiful cliffside proposal!

That almost didn't happen because of a storm. Hassam called last minute because his  original photographer had to cancel. I was worried about getting to them with crazy flooding and road closures going on. We saw a small little window in the storm and had a beautiful afternoon at Sea Ranch.

A Wedding Close to My Heart: Photographing the wedding of one of my childhood friends was deeply special. Being part of her big day felt like coming home to so many beautiful memories.

The Shy Senior Who Was Truly a Theater Kid at Heart: One of my favorite senior sessions involved a student who described herself as shy. Little did I know that underneath her quiet demeanor was a vibrant performer who came alive in front of the camera. Capturing her confidence and joy was a highlight of my year.

The Proposal That Almost Got Away: Proposals are always exciting, but this one had my heart racing! Despite some last-minute challenges, everything came together, and witnessing such a raw and emotional moment was unforgettable

The Las Vegas Conference: Attending a photography conference in Las Vegas with over 5,000 attendees was an experience like no other. The 12-hour days were intense but incredibly rewarding, as I learned new skills and genre of photography.

Generational Sessions: This year brought a first for me—photographing the maternity session of a previous senior client, followed by her little sister’s senior portraits. Finishing the senior photos for this family of three sisters was a full-circle moment that I’ll treasure.

Maternity and Newborn Magic: Another highlight was capturing the second maternity and newborn sessions for one of my previous brides and grooms. It’s always an honor to document a growing family and witness their joy.

My Son’s Wedding: A personal milestone this year was my son’s wedding. Having two of my best friends photograph the day made it even more meaningful. It was a celebration of love, family, and friendship that I will cherish forever.

2024 wasn’t without its difficulties. We experienced the loss of loved ones, a reminder of how precious and fleeting time can be. These moments brought both grief and clarity, deepening my appreciation for the work I do and the memories I help preserve. I cant tell you how much this photo means to me now. At the time I was hesitant because its missing a few grandkids. It's not picture perfect, but it's perfect for us. My dad requested it, he never asked for anything. I'm so glad he did!

Looking Ahead to 2025

As I prepare for the new year, I’m excited to embrace fresh visions, dreams, and goals. One of the most exciting ventures on the horizon is Sonoma Bride, a new business I’m launching with my daughter-in-law, Zaina. Sonoma Bride will offer gifts for brides, their friends, and families, combining our shared love of weddings and creativity. Stay tuned for more details—we can’t wait to share this with you!

I’m also looking forward to more opportunities to connect with amazing clients, travel for unique sessions, and continue growing my photography business. The possibilities feel endless, and I’m ready to dive in.

Gratitude for 2024

To my clients, friends, and family: thank you for being part of this journey. Whether you trusted me to capture your most important moments, collaborated with me on creative projects, or supported me through life’s ups and downs, I am endlessly grateful. Your stories inspire me, and I’m honored to be part of them.

Here’s to a fresh start in 2025, filled with creativity, connection, and countless memories waiting to be captured. If you’re planning a wedding, proposal, or portrait session next year, I’d love to hear from you. Let’s create something beautiful together.

Wishing you all a joyful and prosperous New Year!

With gratitude,
Sheila
